Kitchen Table Lingo USAKitchen Table Lingo USA

At the English Project we reckon that America’s kitchens are just bursting out with private language. In fact, our first book of Kitchen Table Lingo had a few contributions from the USA. They smelled like freshly-made coffee. So now we want many more of them.

So here are the rules:
Kitchen Table Lingo is primarily about private language – the invention and handing on of words within families or friendship groups. It is not slang (which is in common usage and which no-one can quite pin down in its origins).

So if you have words which:

  • have been invented or been handed down amongst your family or friends
  • are not in the standard dictionaries (or at least not with that meaning)
  • are used by at least three people
  • have been in use for at least one month
  • are decent and repeatable

then we would like to receive them. Just fill in the details below.
